The aquarium is shared with people from across the internet. Here’s what to know before your family joins in.
Updated September 25, 2026
A public reef.
Chat brings together website, Twitch, and YouTube viewers. People outside your family can see public names and messages.
Creations get shared.
Fish artwork, names, and creator nicknames can appear on the website and livestream. Viewers may record or share what they see.
Stay involved.
Take a look together, agree on what to share, and check in along the way. You can browse the public reef without a reef account.
ACCOUNTS & AGE REQUIREMENTS
The platform’s rules come with you.
Community Aquarium does not set a separate minimum age. When using Twitch or YouTube, their age requirements, parental-permission rules, and account restrictions still apply. Connecting an account here does not override them.
TWITCHCheck age & supervision
Twitch requires users to be at least 13, or the higher minimum age that applies where they live. Users below the local age of adulthood need a supervising parent or guardian who agrees to Twitch’s terms.
YouTube has age and parental-permission requirements, with supervised options for younger viewers. Supervised child accounts cannot use live chat or create a channel, so they cannot connect personal YouTube chat here.
Availability can depend on country, account type, and platform settings. Check the linked platform guidance before setting up an account. YouTube posting from this website is currently being prepared.
SMALL HABITS, LESS TO WORRY ABOUT
Keep personal details out of the water.
Help your child choose what stays private before naming a fish, submitting artwork, or joining a conversation.
Use a made-up nickname. Leave out full names, birthdays, school names, addresses, and phone numbers.
Keep identifying details out of artwork and fish names, too.
Review the selected account and destination before sending a chat message.
Talk about unfamiliar links, requests to move to private messages, and when to stop and ask an adult.
Agree on breaks and check any platform purchases, subscriptions, or gifting together.
KINDNESS TAKES ALL OF US
Moderation helps. It has limits.
We use automated checks for public text and submitted creations, alongside community rules against abusive content and sharing personal details. Checks can miss something or make a mistake. A live, public conversation cannot be guaranteed suitable for every child, and we cannot promise continuous human supervision.
If something feels wrong, stop engaging. Use Twitch or YouTube’s reporting and blocking tools for activity on those platforms, and contact us about content on the Aquarium website.
A REAL PERSON CAN HELP
Something needs a closer look?
Contact us about a message, creation, or personal information your child may have shared. Parents and guardians can request review or removal of information we hold.
Include a page link, public nickname or fish name, and approximate time. Please avoid sending extra information about your child, passwords, or identity documents in your first message.
We may need to verify your relationship to the account or content. Removing our copy does not remove recordings, viewer copies, or posts on Twitch and YouTube; those platforms have their own controls.
A few things parents ask.
Does signing in let the website post as my child?
No. Signing in identifies your aquarium account. Personal platform chat requires separate “Connect chat” permission. The message box shows which account and chat will be used before you send. “Disconnect chat” removes our saved permission to post from that account.
When does chat reset?
Visible Reef chat clears each day at 00:00 UTC. Stored messages and Twitch and YouTube history are not automatically deleted by this display reset. For retention details and deletion requests, read our privacy policy.
Does this notice give parental consent?
No. This page is information for families, not a parental-consent or age-verification process. A reef account or platform sign-in is not proof of parental permission. Follow the platform’s requirements and contact us with concerns about a child’s information.
